Teen Charged With Murder Will Stand Trial as an Adult in Idaho

A judge in Idaho ordered Demetri Xs Ewing, a 16-year-old teen charged with murder to stand trial as an adult in Idaho. The teen will have to stand trial in the murder case when he turns 18. He is suspected of having been involved in a home invasion and fatal shooting case.

Magistrate Judge Michelle Evans of Nez Perce County said on Tuesday, May 18, that it is highly probable that Demetri was one of the two people who broke into the home in Lewiston. According to the Lewiston Tribune, two people broke into a house in Lewiston, shot a man identified as Samuel Johns. They are suspected of having driven the bike from their motel on Jan 8 and returned to their motel after the murder.

Clyde K. Ewing, Demetri X. Ewing’s father, aged 43, is also suspected to be involved in the case after a preliminary hearing held on Friday by Magistrate Judge Sunil Ramalingam.

Following this on Tuesday, the Nez Perce County officer Justin Coleman and his office are considering joining both the cases together by filing a motion.

Attorney Greg Rauch represents Demetri X. Ewing, and attorney Rick Cuddihy represents his father.

In the court proceedings, Rauch challenged the testimony of Patricia Labombard, who is related to John’s. According to her, two people invaded their home, attempted to restrain her with zip ties while they shot Samuel in another room. She also testified that she and two other people were smoking marijuana when the incident happened. On this, Rauch questioned whether the court should rely on her memory.

There were other objections put up by Rauch which were overruled. The proceedings concluded to schedule the prosecution of Demetri Ewing on Wednesday, May 19, whereas Clyde Ewing was scheduled for prosecution on Thursday, May 19.
