Man Sentenced to 1.5 Years Minimum on DUI and Possession Charges

The 5th District Court in Idaho sentenced a man to a minimum of one and a half years in prison on DUI and possession charges. Authorities identified the sentenced man as Robert Franklin Lambert, 35, of Carey.

The sentence came as a result of two felony charges brought against the man. These included possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence. According to the details shared by the Bellevue Marshal’s Office, Lambert had been arrested back on January 31. An officer with the Marshal’s Office and another law enforcement officer conducted a traffic stop. As Lambert stopped, the officers detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle.

He was then asked by the officers to step out of the vehicle and undergo field sobriety tests. Upon failing these tests, he submitted a breath test. The portable breathalyzer showed that Lambert’s blood-alcohol level at the time was 0.11. The legal limit for BAC in Idaho is 0.08.

Lambert was then escorted by the officers to the Blaine County Detention Center. At the time of his booking into the jail, officers also found a pouch of methamphetamine on Lambert. This prompted the officers to add a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance in addition to the DUI charge originally brought against him.

Following the proceedings of the court, Lambert was sentenced to 5 years in prison. He must serve at least one and a half years before he becomes eligible for release. The court also imposed a $1,000 fine on Lambert with an additional $97 to be paid in restitution.

This isn’t the first felony conviction against Lambert. Court records show that he has eight previous felony convictions throughout California and Idaho. It isn’t clear if he has been sentenced to prison in any of these convictions.
