Idaho Activists Want Marijuana Bought Legally To Be Decriminalized

The new initiative proposed by Idaho activists would allow adults 21 and up to carry marijuana legally up to three ounces.

Up until now, marijuana is illegal to carry in Idaho. Still, most adults who want to use it travel to the states where it is legal and buy it from there to bring back home. This includes all neighboring states of Idaho except Wyoming. Since it is still illegal in the state, the people that buy the herb risk getting arrested or other forms of police action while returning home.

However, the Idaho activists are now batting for decriminalizing this act of legally buying from stores of neighboring states and bring it to their private property by the people so that they can buy the herb and return home without the worry of police. The initiative is aimed to benefit all adults that are 21 and older and carrying up to 3 ounces of marijuana.

The advocates claim that the goal is to not punish people for legally purchasing weed for private use.

Russ Belville, the spokesman for the Idaho Citizens Coalition and Chief Petitioner of the measure, said, “Everyone knows Idahoans are driving across the border and bringing back home with them about $10 million worth of marijuana a month from legal stores. Every purchase in Oregon or Washington is a purchase not made from illegal marijuana dealers in Idaho and we should incentivize that, not penalize that”.

The only hurdle would be that they need about 65,000 signatures from Idaho’s 35 legislative districts.

But this will be challenging since the governor of Idaho, Mr. Brad little, recently signed a bill passed by the state legislature to increase requirements to make ballots for initiatives such as this.
