DUI Crash in Canyon County Kills One, Suspect Arrested

|

A DUI crash in Canyon County earlier this month resulted in the death of one person. The name of the deceased was not released by the authorities although it was confirmed that he was a male aged 66.

The unfortunate crash in which the elderly man lost his life took place close to Nampa, Idaho. The man had been hit by a driver who then fled the scene of the crash. Witnesses on the scene reported to the authorities about the man lying by the Ustick Road at some distance from the Northside Boulevard intersection.

Deputies from the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office then reached the scene of the crash to discover the victim lying by the roadside. A closer examination revealed that the man had already died and had injuries from a suspected hit-and-run crash.

The deputies were then informed that the Nampa Police Department had apprehended a suspect DUI driver. The driver had been driving recklessly in an area close to where the victim’s body was discovered. The police officers suspected that the same driver had caused the fatal hit-and-run earlier. He was identified as Christian Zumano-Aguilera, 22.

Following his arrest, Zumano-Aguilera was taken to the Canyon County Jail and booked over charges including DUI and failure to provide proof of insurance. Deputies with the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office then obtained a search warrant to thoroughly examine Zumano-Aguilera’s vehicle. Preliminary findings by the deputies revealed that the damage to the vehicle was consistent with the evidence surrounding the hit-and-run crash.

Following these findings, new charges were brought against Zumano-Aguilera. These included a felony charge of leaving the scene of an injury crash and another felony charge of vehicular manslaughter.

It remains to be seen what penalties Zumano-Aguilera receives for these charges. The name of the deceased who was killed in the hit-and-run has not been released by the police so far.
