Man Arrested on DUI charges after Crashing Vehicle, Seeking Police Help

|

A man arrested on DUI charges after he crashed his vehicle and then sought help from the police on Friday, November 6 was identified as Jason Dana, 38.

According to the details shared by the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, Dana was traveling southbound on Highway 75 at the time. His vehicle was identified as a Mercury Mystique. Just as the vehicle neared the East Ford Road, Dana appears to have lost control of the vehicle. The Mystique went off the road, down an embankment and into a barrow pit where it got stuck.

Dana then called for help upon which deputies with the Sheriff’s Office went to him and his vehicle in order to provide aid. Dana told the officers how he had run into an accident and needed help. However, as he spoke, the deputies realized that he was acting erratically.

Based on this observation, the deputies sent Dana to a hospital for evaluation. This is a standard practice to see if the suspect’s blood has any alcohol or drugs in it.

In the meantime, the deputies also conducted a search on the Mercury Mystique before it could be towed away from the crash site. This was when the deputies discovered incriminating evidence including drug paraphernalia as well as controlled substances.

With this evidence, a number of formal charges were brought against Dana. These include driving under the influence 2nd offense, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor driving without privileges, felony possession of a controlled substance, and transporting an open alcohol container.

Even if some of these charges stick as the case goes to trial, Dana can expect to spend some time in prison. For now, he is being held at a jail. The amount of bail set for his case is not known.
