Woman Gets 30 Years in Boise DUI Crash That Killed Toddler

|

A woman who caused a fatal Boise DUI crash was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. The sentence was pronounced on Friday, September 25. The woman was identified by the authorities as Anna Mihelich, 54, of Boise, Idaho.

Mihelich was sentenced in connection with a fatal crash that took place on July 2, 2019. She was traveling on the Orchard Street when her vehicle came into a head-on collision with another vehicle. The other vehicle had four occupants in it at the time. These included a three-year-old girl.

All the four occupants sustained major injuries in the crash. The young girl’s injuries were particularly critical. She remained under treatment for nearly a week before succumbing to her injuries. The girl was identified as Odalys Martinez Chavez. She died on July 8, 2019 from injuries sustained in the crash.

Following the crash, Mihelich was arrested by the police and taken into custody. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Mihelich was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. However, the substance which caused intoxication was not identified by the authorities.

After her arrest, Mihelich was charged with four counts of driving under the influence of drugs. Earlier this year, Mihelich agreed to plead guilty to two counts of aggravated DUI. Based on this guilty plea, the other two charges were dropped against her. She has now received a prison sentence of up to 30 years.

Of these, Mihelich is required to serve a fixed seven years. She will then be eligible for parole after serving the minimum fix term. The authorities are due to transfer Mihelich from the Ada County Jail to the Idaho Department of Correction for her term. Her driver’s license has also been revoked for 10 years.
