Two People Arrested for DUI in Boise

Two people were arrested for DUI in Boise on January 18 and 19. According to the Boise City Police Department, the first suspect, a woman, was charged with DUI and taken into custody on Monday, January 18. The second suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, January 19. Both arrests took place separately at different times and locations.

According to details shared by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, the first incident took place on Monday night. The BCPD apprehended a woman suspected of driving under the influence. Once she was stopped and investigated, officers found sufficient cause to charge her.

ACSO identified the woman arrested for DUI in Boise as Breanna Lynn Phipps, 27, of Meridian, Idaho. Phipps was charged with a single count of misdemeanor DUI. The penalties for a first-offense misdemeanor DUI in Idaho include a jail time of up 6 months, although there is no mandatory minimum time. The suspect may also face a fine of up to $1,000 and a license suspension of 90 to 180 days. The actual duration of the jail time and license suspension ultimately depends on the presiding judge and other circumstances of the arrest.

The second arrest made by BCPD took place early on Tuesday morning. Authorities identified the suspect as Austin Allan Shaw, 29, of Boise, Idaho. Shaw was found guilty of driving under the influence at around 4:30 a.m. He was subsequently charged and taken into custody.

It was later found that Shaw had two or more previous DUI violations within the last ten years. For this reason, he was charged with felony DUI.

The penalties for third DUI offense within the ten-year look-back period are quite stiff in Idaho. These include a mandatory jail time of 30 days, with a maximum jail time of 5 years. In addition, the suspect may also face a fine of up to $5,000 and a license suspension of 1 to 5 years.
