Truck Driver Charged in Three-Vehicle Crash in Pocatello

A truck driver was charged with DUI in a three-vehicle crash in Pocatello last week. The suspect was identified by the authorities as Shane Ray Warr, 57, of Blackfoot.

According to the details shared by the Idaho State Police, the incident occurred along Interstate 15 in Bannock County. Warr was driving a semi truck at the time and was headed northbound along the highway. As he drove past the South 5th Avenue exit and reached the milepost 68, Warr apparently lost control of the vehicle.

The truck veered across the northbound lanes, then through the median and into the southbound lanes of the road. Once in the southbound lanes and into the path of the oncoming traffic, the semi collided with at least two other vehicles.

One of these was identified as a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. Debbie Akers, 54, of Pocatello was driving the vehicle. The second vehicle was a 2020 Ford Range which was being driven by Clay Hirschi, 23, also of Pocatello.

The incident happened at around 4 p.m. Warr suffered negligible injuries and remained relatively safe in the crash. He declined emergency medical assistance. Akers suffered some injuries and was transported to the Portneuf Medical in Pocatello. Hirschi remained safe in the crash.

Following the three-vehicle crash in Pocatello, ISP troopers reached the scene of the accident to investigate. The troopers found Warr with a gash on the forehead and glossy eyes. He also smelled of alcohol. Warr told the officers that he didn’t have much sleep the previous night and had consumed only some alcohol before he had started his journey.

However, officers found several empty containers of alcohol in the truck’s cab. A breathalyzer test was also conducted which revealed the BAC to be at 0.134%. Warr has since been charged with felony aggravated DUI.
