Teenager Killed, Three Suffer Injuries in Car Crash

A teenager received fatal injuries on Wednesday morning in an early-morning car accident just west of Caldwell.

Idaho State Police troopers said they were called to the intersection of Farmway and Ustick Roads at 5:46 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found that a car had struck a pickup truck. The car was driven by a male who was under the age of 18. His name was not released because he is a minor.

Police said the boy was going east on Ustick when he encountered a stop sign and neglected to stop at a stop sign.

He continued through the intersection and his car was hit by the southbound pickup driven by 60-year-old Caldwell resident Kelly Comber.

The teenager died at the scene. One of his three passengers, 29-year-old Lucilo Perez-Cruz, was injured. Perez-Cruz was taken to Saint Alphonsus in Boise by ambulance.

Meanwhile, Comber was taken to Caldwell’s West Valley Medical Center by a private vehicle. No information was released about his condition or that of his passenger.

The crash caused the intersection to be blocked for about two hours while first responders worked to clear the scene. Police will continue to investigate the accident.

There’s nothing to indicate that alcohol was involved in this crash. However, every day, an average of 29 individuals in the United States die in car accidents that involve a driver who is impaired by alcohol.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2016, in excess of a million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
