DUI Driver Crashes Into Tree on Boise Greenbelt

A DUI driver crashes into a tree on the Boise Greenbelt in the early evening hours this Friday. According to the eyewitnesses, the driver had been driving on the greenbelt for a quarter of a mile before the vehicle finally crashed into the tree.

The accident took place at around 4 p.m. on Saturday. It happened at the 4900 block of the West Willow Lane near the Veterans Memorial Parkway and the State Street. The driver was headed west at the time.

Eyewitness reports suggest that the driver was drunk at the time he left the Willow Lane Park parking. As the driver left the parking, he began to drive on the Greenbelt. There were no pedestrians on the Greenbelt at the time and no injuries were reported. The driver himself sustained some injuries as a result of the crash into the tree.

The crash was reported to the police at around 4 p.m. by an eyewitness who also took the keys out of the vehicle’s ignition so that the DUI driver may not escape the scene of accident. Upon reaching the site of the accident, police transferred the driver to a nearby hospital. However, it is believed that the driver didn’t sustain any serious injuries.

Police officers have also cited the driver for misdemeanor DUI. This is a fairly light charge and carries minor penalties such as no mandatory minimum jail time and fine of up to $1,000. The light charge is largely a result of the fact that the crash didn’t cause any bodily injury or harm to another person. In the case of great bodily injury, DUI cases often turn into aggravated DUI with harsher penalties. In Idaho, for instance, aggravated DUI carries the penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
