Driver Charged with Felony DUI in Bonneville County Crash

A driver was charged with felony driving under the influence after he caused a DUI crash in the Bonneville County. The driver then attempted to flee the scene but was pursued and apprehended by a deputy with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the details released by the Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the intersection of the 25th East and North Yellowstone. It took place on Wednesday, September 2, but the Sheriff’s Office released the suspect’s name and other details on Wednesday, September 9. The suspect was identified as Cory E. Wardle, 60, of Idaho Falls.

Witnesses reported that another vehicle had stopped at the intersection light when Wardle’s blue pickup rear-ended it. Wardle then reversed his vehicle before hitting the other vehicle a second time. Witnesses present at the scene interacted with Wardle and found him intoxicated.

By the time one of the deputies had arrived on the scene of the crash, Wardle was already driving away. Attempts were made to stop Wardle but he fled southwards on the 25th East. At one point, he even drove into the oncoming lane of traffic, reaching speeds as high as 57 mph.

The chase finally came to an end when Wardle took a turn before realizing he had entered a cul-de-sac. He then exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot while holding a beer. The deputy ran after him and was able to wrestle him into custody soon afterwards.

The occupants of the vehicle rear-ended by Wardle sustained minor bruises and bumps. They refused medical treatment on the spot. Wardle was transported by the deputies to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked on multiple charges. These included leaving the scene of a crash, misdemeanor resisting and obstructing a law officer, eluding an office in a motor vehicle, and felony DUI. Wardle already had three prior DUI convictions in the previous two years. If you are caught driving under the influence, contact our Boise DUI attorneys right away.
