Man Charged Following Highway 30 DUI Crash

A Pocatello man has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and a number of other offenses following a crash in which he was involved. The Highway 30 DUI crash and the subsequent arrest of the man took place on Monday, April 19.

According to the details shared by the Idaho State Police, a two-vehicle crash was reported on Monday morning at around 9:20 a.m. The location of the crash was on the U.S. Highway 30 in Pocatello. By the time the ISP troopers arrived on the scene of the crash, they found the driver of one of the vehicles walking away from the crash scene. He was identified as David Garfield Carringer, 61, of Pocatello.

The troopers asked Carringer to stop. When he did, troopers saw that he exhibited many telltale signs of being drunk. Upon noticing these, Carringer was asked by the troopers to undergo a field sobriety test which he failed.

Based on his mannerisms and the results of the field sobriety tests, a trooper attempted to take Carringer into custody. Carringer resisted the arrest upon which he was taken down to the ground and then handcuffed. Troopers transported Carringer to the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello for treatment of crash-related injuries.

After being treated for his minor injuries, ISP troopers arrested Carringer. A number of charges were brought against him in connection with the incident. These include driving under the influence, driving without privileges, leaving the scene of a crash, and resisting and obstructing an arrest.

The Highway 30 DUI crash itself didn’t result in any notable injuries to the parties involved. Carringer was taken to the Bannock County Jail after being formally charged.

In many cases, the manner of a DUI arrest can be questioned in a court of law and used for an effective defense. A Boise DUI defense lawyer can also move a court to suppress evidence if the arrest is shown to be unlawful.
