A Bonneville DUI convict who was arrested back in September and later escaped during a work detail has now been rearrested. The convict was identified by the authorities as Cory Wardle, 61.
According to the details shared by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Department, Wardle had originally been arrested in September and was booked into the Bonneville County Jail. The arrest came about when Wardle allegedly struck a vehicle twice.
A number of formal charges were brought against him. These included felony DUI, felony eluding an officer in a motor vehicle, misdemeanor resisting and obstructing, and misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident.
Wardle was yet to have a jury trial for these charges. The trial was scheduled for January 25. In the interim, he took up a work detail to do low wages work which inmates often do to help pay off their fines. On October 22, during a work detail at the courthouse, Wardle escaped when the supervising deputy was turned away for a few seconds.
It took the law enforcement officers nearly a month to track him down and arrest him once again. He was subsequently re-arrested on Friday, November 13. During this arrest, he resisted the officers which led to new charges of resisting or obstructing officers. To his previous charges, an additional felony charge of escape has also been added.
Multiple court hearings were scheduled for Wardle in connection with his several charges. The hearings were scheduled on Monday, November 16.
This isn’t the first time he had been charged with DUI charges or other charges in connection with a DUI incident. Court records indicate that Wardle has been previously charged with several DUIs. Of these, two felony DUI instances happened this year. The bond for his September arrest had previously been set at a sum of $15,300.
